Previously I have bought keyboards because I thought back lights and banks of macro keys turned a normal board into a ‘gamers’ board.
Yet my Sidewinder had keys that felt like shiny plastic (which of course they were) and my Cyborg had certain keys that didn't work unless you finger thumped them several times.
I finally had realized I just wanted a darn keyboard I could type comfortably on, where the keys did what you expected from them, and when it got dark I'd do something revolutionary and turn my desk lamp on.
The 6Gv2 feels like a keyboard from the distant past – when designers made things to last. Apparently it is the weapon of choice for gamers who rage – which means don't sit next to anyone who has one of these at a Lan party as they could probably disembowel you with it.
As an old-fashioned keyboard the keys sit quite high – about twice the height of my MS 5000. This extra height takes a little getting used to as you can feel your fingers travel more when you depress the keys – and as a mechanical keyboard it feels like your fingers are playing on a trampoline as you can feel the springiness of each key – while this may sound like acrobatic fun for your digits in reality just like you have to climb up onto a trampoline so too your fingers have to ‘climb up’ to reach this keyboard.
For good health you should not type with your wrists leaning on an angle on your desk – however when I'm gaming or modding I get lost in the moment and forget about the dangers of RSI and OOS – so this keyboard would have got 5 stars from me if it had a wrist rest. The 6Gv2 is a trimmed down version of the 7g but I think they were a bit cheap leaving out the wrist rest – we don't all type like concert pianists.
I noted a few comment about the missing windows key – I actually like that feature as it used to annoy me hitting the windows key by mistake. You still have a windows key it is just on the right hand side out of harms way next to the ALT key.
The 6Gv2 is a solid no-nonsense keyboard, it doesn't waste space, the keys all work really well, it feels like quality and will likely outlast all my other gaming gear. Seeing as I've gone through 3 other keyboards in 2 years this is a good investment.
I recommend it as a no-frills, high quality keyboard.
