"Great Movie, Where Are the Extras?"
5 stars"

We all know, I think, what an incredible achievement in movie-making TDK represents and of course on Blu-Ray it looks almost as good as it did in theatres, but as a take-home package it comes up a little short.

Picture wise the quality is of course flawless – every detail is recreated faithfully, even in the depths of the shadows and darkness. Sound-wise too, things are as perfect as you will get, the crushing volume of some of the set pieces never getting muddy or drowning out the dialogue.

So what's not to like?

Well, if you saw TDK in IMAX, the impact of those IMAX sequences on a home TV, no matter how large, is simply not as jaw-drop inducing and the necessary cropping of the square IMAX format picture into a 16:9 frame is sometimes noticeable and irritating. I don't know how else they could have addressed that (“windowboxing” the image, with vertical black bars would have been even more jarring) but still, the results are a little disappointing. But only a little.

And of course, if you didn't see the movie at the IMAX then you probably won't even notice (and if that IS the case, then I heartily recommend you make the effort to see it when the movie is re-released to theatres, including IMAX, in January 2009)

The real disappointment though is in the extras, or rather the lack there-of.

The menu interface – what little there is of it – is dull, unsurprising and uninteresting. This might seem trite and unimportant but when you see what is possible with Blu-Ray technology on other titles (e.g. “Prince Caspian”) to see a movie like TDK get second or even third-rate treatment in this department is very disappointing, especially when you consider the richness, diversity, depth and sheer effort that went into the viral marketing campaign for this movie.

The main disc of the 2 disc set contains the movie and a “Focus Points” extra which contains mini-featurettes that can be viewed either all at once as a “mini-making of” of just over 1 hour in length, or in segments at relevant points during the main feature, but this is achieved using the rather clunky and awkward DVD-style “press enter when you see the icon” style interaction, as previously seen with the “follow the white rabbit” feature on The Matrix DVD, rather than the more fluid and immersive interactive enhanced commentary style such as seen on the BluRay of “Pan's Labyrinth”, for example.

There are some interesting and even entertaining insights into the making of the movie, but the lack of a full crew or cast commentary is disappointing.

The contents of Disc 2 are even more disappointing, with a selection of material that is largely available online (trailers, photo gallery etc) and a handful of too brief featurettes and other rather pointless materials.

The single biggest omission though is the lack of BD-Live, as is available on the US version of the same Blu-Ray. A little bit of research on the net will reveal just what we are missing as a result of that (including the ability to access a commentary/notes session with director Chris Nolan).

But if extra's and interactive content are not of any great concern (and they do tend to be view-and-forget in the long run), having this tour de force of movie making and story telling in the very best possible current home-viewing format is enough to justify the price.

This is one of the view Blu-Ray's currently available that has a movie on it that is worth the price tag.

"Incredible"
5 stars"

I have just finished watching The Dark Knight on Blu-ray and it is quite possibly the single greatest veiwing pleasure I've ever experienced. Watching TDK the second time around was even better than the first. The picture quality is absolutely superb and I only wish I had surround sound to make full use of the excellent score. If you are a fan of this movie then it is a no brainer that you should purchase it.

"The Stand out Blu Ray..."
5 stars"

I loved the Dark Knight on Blu Ray i even bought it a full year before I bought a blu ray player…

Everyone knows what a fantastic film this is but not everyone knows how truly spectacular it is on Blu Ray…

The IMAX Sequences are JAW DROPPING on a big screen in High Definition… the sound is Phenomenal and the film is simply put… One of the best films to come out of Hollywood in the last 10 years…

A MUST HAVE for anyone with a blu ray player

the second disk is a fabulous collection of behind the scenes insights into how they brought such an epic film to the big screen

"BEST BLU-RAY MOVIE!!"
5 stars"

This is a MUST HAVE to show off you new high-def home entertainment system. The Picture is not full screen but that is because it has a IMAX feature. Best Blu-ray picture.. Perfect for LEDs. Sound is amazing from the first shot.

Also… Its a great movie.. The best Batman movie of all time.

One the best movies I've seen in years.

Great Storyline. Great Soundtrack. And Heath Ledger is Magnificent as the Joker.

I love the way they chose to use real explosions/props/vehicles instead of CGI. Making the Dark Knight seem that much more serious.

"Probably best film of 2008"

I don't know what it is about The Dark Knight or any of Nolan's films that make them what they are. Its unusual that his films which regurgitate the same actors each time are so successful, however in saying that, it could be the reason why. For The Dark Knight, I would have to say that keeping it real is a big key to success. When you look at the previous 90's Batman flicks, the villians got more unreal after Michael Keaton left and they became packed with cheesy one liners and weak plot lines. The Dark Knight stands out because all the actors play their characters truthfully (apart from a Christian Bale needing a throat lozenge) and they take their roles seriously. Really I'm just ranting on about nothing- its 7:30 in the morning and now I feel like watching it. If you haven't seen it I think you probably should, even if its to honour Heath Ledger's second to last movie.

"Worst Batman movie ever made!"
4 stars"

The Dark Knight is a terrible Batman movie, Batman himself is in the film for no longer than 20 minutes… So how can this be called a Batman film? I think this movie relied on the sad passing of Heath Ledger to put it's numbers up as it feels rushed and unfinished. I could pick this movie apart, but, I'm not going to because overall it's a flaw within itself. I will give credit where it's due, it's a great action/crime/drama film but as a Batman film it fails (even more than Batman and Robin). Would not recommend to hard core Batman fans… AVOID AT ALL COSTS! It's a shame I can only give a rating of 1/5 because this movie deserves far worse.

This movie is probably the best batman movie to date with an all star cast and an awesome performance from the late Heath Ledger who plays the joker. A must own for any batman fan!! "Perfect 2 thumbs up movie"
5 stars"

Let me put it his way, I went to see this in the theatre, rented it on DVD and bought the limited edition on Blu-ray

Heath Ledger as Joker (one of his finest perfomance and sure is the best Joker ever) then Christian Bale as Batman.

This movie is just too good
