On the 4th of June 1850 the Marist Fathers set sale for Napier to establish a religious Mission. They brought with them many things, but one – the most important, was a pioneering spirit that established the Order and grape growing in New Zealand.
It was in this spirit that Dame Kiri Te Kanawa took to the stage in the Greenmeadows vineyard on the 23rd of January 1993 and so began something quite special that would become an annual pilgrimage for some, and a Kiwi icon for others.
The Greenmeadows vineyard in Taradale lies adjacent to the Historic Seminary building and enjoys sweeping views over the city of Napier and Hawke's Bay. It is this unique and natural ampitheatre that has played host to over 400,000 patrons and 17 of the world's greatest performers. It is this extraordinary blend of talented artiste and enthusiastic punters that makes for some of the most memorable moments in the Hawke's Bay sunshine.
Artists from the far corners of the world have combined their talents and the essence of diversity and pure music pleasure.
