Monsoon
MONSOON follows a young British-Vietnamese man Kit (Henry Golding, CRAZY RICH ASIANS, THE GENTLEMEN) as he returns to Vietnam for the first time since his childhood to scatter his parents ashes. Along the way, he finds unexpected romance with handsome young American Lewis (Parker Sawyers) who has his own complex history with a Vietnam of the past. The two men bond over their shared dislocation in a country which greatly impacted both their identities.
Critic Reviews:
- " Serves as a thoughtful exploration of a life displaced and a more than worthy vehicle for Golding's evolving talents. " – Lisa Trifone
- " Quietly shattering in its ruminations on cultural displacement, Monsoon is a stunning portrait of a man in limbo. " – Allyson Johnson
- " Hong's languid sense of pacing lends this 85-minute film an uncommon grace and helps build understated power, exploring a lifetime's worth of longing and uncertainty in the most fleeting of encounters. " – Matthew Lucas
