A little odd, pretty cute, no real story, but clever animation. An easy movie for older kids (6 to 10ish) to enjoy, nothing in there for older kids or adults.

Great story and beautiful to watch
This is a fantastic, boil-burstingly great film for all the family. Just knowing enough for the Adults and just grungy enough for the kids. It's a movie that is a grotesque delight from beginning to end. The little guy loved it and it wasn't too cutesy for him or us. A grown-up delight for kids that, while filled with cheese, is never cheesy.
In the village of Cheesebridge, a Victorian-era berg obsessed with wealth, class and stinky fine cheeses, Eggs, a young orphan boy raised by the Boxtrolls, a lovable group of underground cave-dwelling trash collectors, tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator, Archibald Snatcher, with the help of a wealthy local girl named Winnie.
The Boxtrolls Movie Reviews
“I can't remember the last time I saw a family animation so visually rich, tightly scripted and charmingly performed which was also built on a sound and progressive message.” HitFix
“The Boxtrolls charms, in every way it can – with its gorgeous animation style that combines lo-fi with high-tech (the puppets were printed using 3D printers), with the huggable nature of the characters, and with the boldness of its storytelling and thematic concerns.” The Playlist
“It’s the rare animated film that might amuse adults and kids while slipping a useful message to the latter.” Charlotte Observer
