The Pinheads are Jez & Luke Player, Al Webster, Tanya Avanus, Tex Crick, Chris Zanko & James Kates – 7 mates, who over games of cheap bowling and a shared music taste, accidentally formed a band in the latter half of 2013.
Each got hold of what they refer to as “an assortment of shitty instruments and strange recording equipment”, a move which eventually culminated in their 2015 EP, I Wanna Be A Girl. Since that time, The Pinheads have established themselves as an enigma for their ability to imagine the world more surreal than the one in which we exist and bring it to their music and art – known for their DIY ethos, weird and wonderful handcrafted film clips and distinctive artwork.
Writing for the album began in the deep hinterlands of Northern NSW, where The Pinheads isolated themselves away from the distractions and mundanities of normality, changing the course of their creative process and allowing them to hone their song writing skills. The band returned home to record at the Pinshed Sound Laboratory, their corrugated iron shed, an ex horse stable in the bush. The album was recorded by front man Jez Player, and mixed by Owen Penglis (Royal Headache, The Grates, Straight Arrows).
